Tips Before Making Your High Protein Vegan Burgers

Choose Ingredients That Hold the Patties Together

A good homemade vegan burger starts with ingredients that create a firm, easy-to-shape burger patty. Whether you prefer lentil burgers or bean burgers, combining hearty ingredients with a binder helps your plant-based burgers hold together better from the first mix to the final bite.

Shape and Chill the Patties Before Cooking

Once the mixture is ready, shape each burger patty evenly and let the patties chill before cooking to help them keep their form. This simple step can make a big difference, especially if you plan to cook them in a skillet and want a texture that feels closer to a vegan steak while still staying tender inside.

Add Toppings and Sides That Fit Your Burger Night

To make this recipe your own, pair your burgers with your favourite buns, toppings, and sides. A slice of vegan cheese, crisp lettuce, tomato, pickles, or roasted vegetables can all work well, giving you plenty of ways to try this recipe as part of an easy burger night at home.

Questions Related to the High Protein Vegan Burgers

What Can I Use to Keep Vegan Burgers from Falling Apart?

To help a burger hold its shape, start with burger ingredients that create a mixture with enough texture and moisture balance. In this veggie burger recipe, ingredients like oats, lentils, or black bean can help bind the patties together, while a small amount of soy sauce can add flavour without making the mixture too loose. If you want to make the best vegan burger at home, chilling the patties before cooking can also help them stay together more easily. This method works well for black bean burgers, lentil-based patties, and other plant-based options that are high in protein.

What Toppings Go Well with High Protein Vegan Burgers?

There are plenty of burger toppings that pair well with this great recipe, depending on the flavours and textures you want to serve. Crisp lettuce, sliced tomatoes, pickles, onions, and a sauce made with Silk Plain Protein Plant-Based Yogurt can all complement a black bean burger or other plant-based patties without taking away from the main ingredients. You can also add a slice of vegan cheese or other toppings inspired by vegan meat alternatives if you want to change the final result. Many people love this recipe because it is easy to customize for different burger nights at home.

Can You Freeze High Protein Vegan Burgers?

Yes, you can freeze the cooked or uncooked patties for later. Once cooled, place the burgers in an airtight container or wrap them well before storing them in the freezer. This makes black bean burgers and other plant-based patties convenient to prepare ahead, especially when you want to keep extra portions on hand for future meals. When you are ready to enjoy them, thaw in the fridge and reheat in a skillet or oven until warmed through. Want to try other vegan recipes?
