All our Silk products are designed to be dairy-free. We have extensive testing protocols in place at our production facilities to detect and prevent contamination by dairy or dairy components. A dairy allergy is an extreme sensitivity to the proteins in dairy products and should not be confused with lactose intolerance. Dairy allergies can range from mild indigestion to anaphylaxis, which is an acute reaction. People with lactose intolerance have difficulty digesting the naturally occurring sugar in milk, which can cause stomach discomfort. Anyone with severe allergies should always consult a doctor before introducing a new food.

Of course, those with allergies should always consult a doctor before introducing a new food.
We produce many products containing nuts. To know if a specific product contains nuts, always check the allergen statement on each product. Also, many of our products are produced on shared equipment. Because consumer safety is our highest priority, we have extensive allergen management protocols in place to help ensure that ingredient commingling does not occur, but anyone with allergies should always consult a doctor before introducing a new food.
Yes, our products are completely vegan! There are no animal products, by-products or derivatives in our products. The calcium we use in some of our products is derived from natural limestone. All other vitamins and live cultures used to fortify Silk products are vegetable-based.
Most Silk products are certified Kosher Dairy by the Orthodox Union. This means that our dairy-free products may have been processed on equipment also used for dairy. It does not indicate the presence of dairy components in the products. We have extensive protocols in place at our facilities to detect and prevent contamination by dairy components.

We proudly participate in the Non-GMO Project—a nonprofit collaboration of manufacturers, retailers, farmers and consumers dedicated to ensuring the availability of non-GE or non-genetically modified organisms (GMO) foods and beverages. The Non-GMO Project is the only organization providing independent, third-party verification and non-GMO guidance for products in the U.S. and Canada.
Silk products contain only soybeans grown without genetic engineering, right here in North America. We employ robust testing protocols to ensure that our beans meet the highest standards of quality, consistency and safety.
The organic soybeans that we use are certified organic by independent agencies accredited by the the Canada Agricultural Products Act (CAPA), in compliance with the organic requirements set by the Organic Products Regulations 2009 (OPR).
We recommend checking with your pediatrician about the best diet for your child.

According to the Non-GMO Project, "A GMO, or genetically modified organism, is a plant, animal, microorganism or other organism whose genetic makeup has been modified using recombinant DNA methods (also called gene splicing), gene modification or transgenic technology. This relatively new science creates unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods."
Thirty countries around the world—including European Union members—have chosen to place significant regulations on genetically modified foods and products.

Our refrigerated beverages and Silk for Coffee will stay fresh in your refrigerator until the date stamped on the carton. Once opened, they need to be consumed within 7 to 10 days. It is not unusual for our products to remain good past the 10-day mark; however, we only guarantee that they will be good for 7 to 10 days once opened if kept refrigerated and the container is closed at all times.
Note: Our shelf-stable products do not need to be refrigerated until they are opened and will stay fresh until the date stamped on the carton, usually up to eight months from the date of purchase. Once opened, they age just like our other products and must be refrigerated.
“Shelf-stable” refers to the container some of our products come in. Shelf-stable containers are sterile and hermetically sealed, much like canned foods. This allows them to be kept in storage without refrigeration. They are great for storing in the pantry or taking on a trip.
Our shelf-stable products do not need to be refrigerated until they are opened. However, once opened, shelf-stable products must be kept refrigerated.
Every product we offer is enrolled in The Non-GMO Project, which means a third party reviews our ingredients and protocols to make sure we meet the Project’s high standards for non-GMO foods. Once the evaluation is complete, we’re cleared to display the “Non-GMO Project Verified” seal on our packaging. Because the verification process is elaborate, and updating our packaging can take a few months, you may see some of our newer products on the shelf without the “Non-GMO Verified” seal in place. Our 236 ml almond beverage singles are verified by the Non-GMO Project, but don’t carry the seal simply due to space constraints on a small package. A comprehensive list of verified products is available online at NonGMOProject.org.
We do not recommend it. Although freezing does not affect their safety or nutritional value, Silk products change in texture when thawed. However, Silk soy, almond and coconut beverages perform well in frozen-dessert recipes.
